In the spring of 2016, on the day of Pasolini’s birth, March 5, a travelling show aboard a special Trenitalia passenger train will begin its journey across Italy, departing from Udine station en route to Matera. The show, aptly entitled Travelling with Pasolini, will make a number of stops during the course of the journey, each in some way significant to the life and works of the poet and intellectual, pausing in Casarsa, Brescia, Milan, Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Florence, Arezzo, Rome, and Naples before reaching its final destination.

The idea of the train was devised in collaboration with the artistic directors of Teatro di Roma and CSS as part of a series of events to mark the fortieth anniversary of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s death. Promoted by the Ministry of Heritage, Culture and Tourism, the initiative provides the spectators/passengers opportunities to meet artists, theatre companies, witnesses and experts who will offer insights into the life and works of Pier Paolo Pasolini through shows, performances, videos, music, commentaries and shared memories. There will also be a number of stop-offs along the way with performances and events staged on the ground as well as events in the stations themselves, where new guests will join the train.
Spectators can choose between the following options: either to join the train at its departure point in Udine and remain for the entire journey to Matera, thus experiencing the event from start to finish; opt to join the train along route and stay on board for a part of the journey only, or book to see or attend an event at one of the stop-off points en route.

The entire work will be jointly directed by CSS and the Teatro di Roma and will involve several performance companies, various artists, commentators and witnesses, each of whom will participate at different stages of the journey and at different stop-off points along the way.
